Sessional Lecturer – Architecture and Interior Design – 

Salary: £32.77 - £38.45 ph + holiday pay, (hourly sessional rate)

Under the direction of the Course Leader and in consultation of the subject specialist, to deliver the required learning experience, in architecture and interior design on relevant courses at Higher Education level for the contracted dates and times. The right candidate will also contribute to the development of learning and teaching, using the Institution’s Virtual Learning Environment, helping with setting project briefs, delivering learning teaching and assessment.

Applicants should have undergraduate and postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject, and professional accreditation with ARB are also desirable as is HEA accreditation / a PGCE.  He/She will have professional knowledge of and experience in the architecture profession together with academic teaching experience.

In particular applicants should have a working understanding of the contexts and production of constructed space design, sound knowledge of industry relevant software, an interest in the development of new modes of practice, and a commitment to emerging technologies with a keen interest in learning associated new tools and techniques e.g. prototyping, user-centred design.

Areas of expertise should include one or more of:

  • Teaching at higher education level
  • Understanding of basic integration of technology into architectural/interior design projects
  • Be able to teach design, representation and the integration of construction technology
  • Be able to teach range of architectural skills, from small to large scale projects
  • Digital design and fabrication skills: sketching/2D design, CAD, 3D printing, CNC, laser cutting, model-making, other materials prototyping skills
  • Able to teach and work with large group of students

Key Activities and Responsibilities                                              

  • To act as tutor for individuals / groups of students for the relevant course(s).
  • Working in established course teams and, as directed, to participate in the assessment of student work and critical reviews.
  • To participation in Peer Observation of Teaching and Staff Appraisal and staff development processes.
  • To undertake other reasonable duties that may be required, from time to time, by Ravensbourne.
  • To attend as contracted unless otherwise agreed by the Course Leader.
  • To comply with legislative requirements as it relates to the job, including the Data Protection Act, Equal Opportunities, Freedom of Information Act, health and safety obligations.
